It's summertime, so every hot day (which is every day) my kids are asking to get ice cream! I don't really mind because I love ice cream myself, but in light of school starting in a couple weeks, I thought of using ice cream as an educational tool. The thought of my kids making their own sweet treat was kind of nice as well...

There is very few simple ingredients, and a lot of shaking....after about 10 minutes, voila, ice cream.

It's a very scientific process, as the ice cream goes in as a liquid and magically get shaken into creamy sweet solid.. The kids feel really great having made their own dessert and no mess, since the plastic bags can be tossed in the trash. Win win

What you need:

  • 1 1/2 cup half & half
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 cups crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup rock salt (ice cream salt)

Place half and half, vanilla, and sugar into small plastic bag, seal well. In large gallon size plastic bag, place ice and salt. Place smaller bag into ice bag, seal large bag and shake well for a good ten minutes!

Serve immediately or freeze
