Tomorrow is Valentine's day! If you have little valentines, like I do this recipe is a great way to wake up the little ones with hearts of love!

As much as I love cooking, when it comes to a romantic dinner, I like to have my meal cooked for me. So I'll leave that to the chef at the super chic restaurant..

The morning is when I love to bring the kids in the kitchen with me, we make this super easy recipe a little more special by butting them into heart shapes. Serving them with fresh red strawberries adds the perfect touch!

 

 

 

What you need:

 

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips* (optional)

Combine flour,baking powder, and baking soda in large bowl.

Add in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Stir until just combined, batter should still look clumpy (this will make for very fluffy pancakes)

Grab a nonstick pan , and heat to med high.

Spray pan with non stick spray and use about 1/2 cup batter for each pancake. Sprinkle on chocolate chips.

When batter starts to bubble, flip and cook on opposite side about 2 mins.

Place pancakes on ovenproof plate, and stick in oven to remain warm!

Using a large heart shaped cookie cutter, cut pancakes into heart shapes

Seve with fresh fruit and maple syrup

 

**You can add chocolate chips directly to batter, or sprinkle them on each pancake during cooking!**

*You can also omit chocolate chips for basic buttermilk pancakes
