Upon planning for a dinner party, I was on dessert duty..my favorite. We really wanted to showcase seasonal produce,spices, and colors. You can’t get much more ‘fall’ then apples and pears. Crisp, crunchy, sweet fruits, that make a great team when combined to make this delicious crumble.

 

For this recipe I used tart granny smith apples and sweet bosc pears, I found this medley to be really balanced. The fruits cook to a perfect sweet and tender state topped with a crunchy crust, truly apple and pear bliss.

This recipe is perfect for a crowd, but I honestly think I could eat the whole thing myself. The only downfall of this recipe, is waiting for it to cook while your mouth waters from the sweet aroma creeping out of the oven.

 

I could continue to rave about how delicious this dessert is, how if you love apple pie, this is your dessert go-to; how this dessert is absolutely perfect for a cold day, because served warm with ice cream it tastes divine; but I will let you try it yourself.

What you need:

  • 5 granny smith apples, cored and sliced
  • 5 bosc pears, cored and sliced
  • juice of 2 lemons
  • 1/3 cup organic cane sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup organic cane sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar. lightly packed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold butter, diced

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine apples, pears,lemon juice, sugar,flour cinnamon, and nutmeg. Place in 9×13 in baking dish.

In another bowl, add ingredients for topping. Beat with an electric mixer on low, for 1 min. Mixture should resemble large crumbles. Sprinkle mixture evenly on top of fruit, covering fruit completely. Bake for 45 mins to one hour, when top is brown and fruit is bubbly.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream!
