The holidays are here! It seems every year they come faster and faster. I love this time of year, it’s so much fun and you have an excuse to make mountains of yummy festive treats. As much as I would love to visit my family this time of year, it’s not always possible. My grandma makes these truly delectable assortment of christmas cookies, and while shortbreads are one of the many, I am missing out

I would ask her for all the delicious recipes, but since we are a family of four (with not so sweet teeth), I just stick to a classic favorite. Shortbread cookies are extremely simple and elegant. They can be jazzed up in numerous ways, the possibilities are endless. I decided to stick to a simple, buttery shortbread and make it a creative afternoon with the kids. You really can’t go wrong with an assortment of candies, sprinkles, and colored frosting.

We had a blast decorating, well my daughter did. My 19 month old son was taste testing the candy buffet…tis the season right?

After dinner we ate some of our beautiful creations, absolutely delish. The melt in your mouth, buttery shortbread with just the right amount of sweet decor, and bits and pieces of crunchy texture. There is no going wrong with this classic christmas cookie.
