You don’t have go too far out of your way to make something special for your Valentine… this alluring dessert is much more simple than it seems.

Most Valentine desserts are made seductively using chocolate, especially the classic chocolate dipped strawberries. While they are an absolute go to for this special day, I thought I would create something a tad different, using one of my favorites…maraschino cherries!

These cherries are beautifully sweet, and have a perfect vibrant red color. I knew using them was a must.

My Valentine is picky, but I know his palate. Instead of chocolate cake (which he is not a fan of) I decided to make a dense, chewy, chocolatey brownie. Absolutely perfect. Packed with rich chocolate flavor. Best part about brownies, is how easy they are to make? You basically just dump the ingredients together.

Brownies paired with light, airy, whipped cream and cherries with a drizzle of their syrup, makes for a sexy Valentine dessert. If you’d like to make them that much more festive, a heart shaped cookie cutter works wonders!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

What you need:

  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter (melted)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • whipped cream, for serving
  • maraschino cherries, for serving

Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Grease 2 8X8 square baking pans.

In a large bowl, combine sugar with wet ingredients. In a medium bowl whisk together dry ingredients. Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients, mix well.

Pour mixture evenly into both cake pans.

Bake 13-15 mins. Toothpick inserted should be a tad sticky. **brownies will resemble a slightly underdone cake, which is what you are looking for, so they will be chewy**

Remove from oven and cool on baking rack. Slice brownies and served with whipped cream and cherries
