There are some nights I just don’t feel like cooking; some nights I’d rather toss a boxed store-bought meal into the microwave and be done with it all, eating that is. On these nights, I would, without a thought about it, opt for the unhealthy meal choice in order to satisfy my hunger. To add cream to the pie, I’d watch TV while stuffing my face (that’s a “no-no” for all you soon-to-be health junkies), then go to sleep immediately after (double no-no).

There are also ridiculous nights in which, though I’m feeling the effects of being financially broke long term, I’d rather skip the fruits (as that’s all I can afford most times), and indulge in a high carb / high starch meal!! Well, this simple recipe is especially for those looking to spend less money and time on their meals / meal preparations, but seeking to satiate their intense carb cravings. And also, as a bonus, the food’s just damn good!!

Now I know you’ve been eyeing Mackie’s Big Mac, looking for a way to bypass your commitment to health and weight loss. Yeah, the instant gratification winking at you in the form of that five dollar bill (or whatever it costs for a big mac nowadays) on your bed’s quite enticing. Well, my friend, listen to the voice of reason (which is my voice…ahem ahem) and take a few minutes outta your day to make this. You won’t regret it.

We have here whole wheat spaghetti, dried rosemary spice, olive oil, salt, garlic, and pepper. The preparation time takes approximately less than twenty minutes. If this isn’t the selling point then I don’t know what is.

The idea for this dish came to me after I had spontaneously incorporated rosemary to my cooking one afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by how strong both the scent and the taste of the herb is. When paired with olive oil, this tangy, delicious herb just wonderfully and gloriously reaches your pallet to make sweet long lasting love to your senses. But enough about rosemary, let’s turn to the other ingredients.

 What you’ll need:

First step -

  • 85g whole wheat spaghetti
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 2 tsps salt (I use pink himalayan sea salt)
  • 2 tsps ground red pepper
  • 1 heaping tblsp of dried rosemary spice

Bring water to a boil. Toss the spaghetti and spices into the water then close the lid partway, stirring the spaghetti occasionally to avoid clumpiness.  Cook until spaghetti’s tender (approx 10-15mins) then strain.

Second step –

  • 4 tsps of extra virgin olive oil

On low to medium heat,  mix the oil with the pasta for about 5-10 more mins. Stir, mix, serve, and enjoy!!
