Brrr, it is quite cold outside, yes even here in Houston. I’ve gotten pretty used to this warm weather, so I feel the wrath of this cold air. Cold weather like this really encourages hearty, warm meals, and they do a very good job at cozying us up after a long day. As good as these meals are, they tend to be heavy.

 

For lunch I wanted to stay away from heavy leftovers from last night, but I still wanted something warm. Cue in grilled cheese, but not just any grilled cheese…

I thought I would use the grill pan and beautifully grill up some pears for this sandwich and use fresh french bread to make it all the more elegant. This mini sandwich really works for a small warm lunch. Sprinkling some cinnamon on the pears adds a nice warm spice , perfect for this cold day.

The finished result is an ever so crispy sandwich, filled with warm melty cheese, and a light sweet crunch from the pears..delish!

 

What you need:

  • fench baguette, sliced
  • 1 d’anjou pear, sliced
  • sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp butter/margarine

Grill pears on grill-pan on high heat, just until pears have grill marks. They should still have a little crunch. Remove from heat and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Butter a frying pan on med-high heat, place bread, pear, cheese, and layer with another piece of bread. Cook until bread is crispy and cheese is melted. Serve warm
